Why does this one feel different?
Most of Why Zero’s awards come from the web world: the FWA, Awwwards, CSS Design Awards and others. Those juries look at websites every day.
Kyoorius is different. It is an Indian design jury that judges work across disciplines. So this award comes from designers who are not only looking at websites, and who compare the craft against design in every form.
For a studio based in India, that matters. It is also the award whose name means most to an Indian client who has never heard of Awwwards.
How did the judging work?
Judging for 2026 ran from 25 to 28 August. Why Zero first made it through the jury’s first list, the round before the Elephants are decided. Then the jury gave it a Baby Blue Elephant.
What was the jury looking at?
The category was Design Craft, which is about how well the thing is made.
On Why Zero, the craft is mostly invisible. It is a site that takes more than a gigabyte of 3D source files and ships them in under 10 MB. It runs smoothly on a cheap, four year old Android phone. And it tells a whole story, from drawing a zero to exploring a city, in one continuous scroll. We wrote about how in our Codrops case study summary.
Who made Why Zero?
Zero University’s team wrote the concept and set the design direction. We built it: the development, the 3D web pipeline, the shaders and the performance work. See the Why Zero case study for the full project.
What else did Why Zero win?
The Elephant sits alongside Site of the Month from Awwwards, the FWA and Orpetron, and an Awwwards Developer Award, Site of the Day and Honorable Mention, among others. See every award Why Zero won.
Thank you to the Kyoorius jury, and to Zero University for a brief worth building.
